Rather than spend a single night in each of a dozen cities, our modified schedule included three nights in Nuremberg, two nights in Bamberg, three nights in Frankfurt, one night in Cologne, and two nights in Amsterdam. From these temporary home bases, we took day trips to the places that were on our original ship schedule.
The Nazi parade grounds still stand in Nuremberg. The weeds are cut back as necessary, but otherwise nothing is being done at the site. The local debate is whether to remove all trace of the parade grounds, or to keep them as a reminder of the Nazi era.
We also visited courtroom 600, where the Nuremberg trials were held between 1945 and 1949. The courtroom is on the upper level of this building.
The old part of the city is still surrounded by the old walls. The high point is a castle.
