We spent one night in Cologne, on our way from Frankfurt to Amsterdam. Cologne is a modern city with a few links to the past, such as the city gate.
Most cities that we had visited thus far had been known for their unique castles, monestaries, and churches. Cologne is known for its padlocks. This bridge contains a huge collection of padlocks, left by passersby. It has turned into an art work of sorts.
There are also some more traditional forms of art. Here is our tour director with two of her friends.
In Cologne, beer is served in 0.2 l glasses. That’s about 6.7628 ounces, or slightly more than half a 12 oz can. The theory is that you can drink your beer while it is still cold. In Munich beer is served in 1.0 l glasses. In most parts of Germany, beer was available in 0.5 l or 0.3 l glasses. Here are two of the small beer glasses next to a Munich mug.
After lunch and two tiny glasses of beer, we left for Amsterdam.
