Amsterdam

The last stop on what would have been our river cruise was the city of Amsterdam. We did manage to spot our ship, the Aria, which had slipped through the repaired lock and cruised with only its crew to be in place for the next cruise scheduled to go back to Vienna. Without us.

Amsterdam claims to have more bikes than people. One barge was obviously used simply to store some of the abundance of bikes.

We did get to take a boat ride. Our city tour of Amsterdam included a boat tour of the harbor and many of the city canals.

The walking tour took us past the Anne Frank site. The line to get in ran around the block. We decided to see other sites.

According to our tour guide, marijuana is not legal in Amsterdam; laws against it are simply not enforced. On the other hand, prostitution is legal. Why no pictures? We did take an evening tour of the red light district and saw plenty, but cameras are strictly forbidden. Anyone trying to take pictures will have their camera ripped out of their hands and thrown into the nearest canal, either by the police or by the prostitutes themselves. Sorry, no pictures.

Before dawn on the fourth of July, many of our fellow travelers left our hotel for the airport and the USA. We had our bags in the hallway at the usual time of 7:30, ready for our Post Trip in Bruges with stops in Delft and Ghent.
