A 50th wedding anniversary doesn’t come around very often. We decided to schedule a “trip of a lifetime” to celebrate this special event. There are a lot of trips that we wanted to take, including Australia, China, Africa, and South America. We had done a couple of cruises; a Disney cruise with our son and his family, and a cruise to Alaska. As great as those were, the land was often too far away to see and after a while, the ocean starts to all look the same.
What could be better than a river cruise? Unpack once, and forget it, just like an ocean cruise. But on a river, the land is always in view. What could be better than to sit on our balcony and watch the world go by? Then stop at an interesting riverside village and do some exploring.
Linda looked at online reviews and we decided on the Great Rivers of Europe by Grand Circle. The promotional materials looked great.
This would not be cheap, but it did look like a solid value. To make our experience even better, we added a Pre Trip to Prague, Czech Republic, and a Post Trip to Bruges, Belgium.
What follows is a story of what happens when one small thing goes wrong.
Things got off to a great start in Prague.
