Darel and Linda 2015

Another year, more travel, more golf, less hair, more pounds.

Rather than a second home in the desert or beach, we have decided to just travel for at least one week each month during the winter. We started 2015 with a week in Cancun at the Villa del Palmar resort.

The resort is right next door to a ferry terminal, and we spent much of our time on Isla Mujeres, with its wonderful beaches, restaurants, and golf carts. (This was as close as we came to an actual golf course in Mexico.)

We also visited such things as a museum and a nearby Mayan site, El Meco.

Our big trip was three weeks in Peru and Ecuador in February. In the Amazon Rain Forest we did a canopy tour in the tops of trees, fished (and ate) Piranha, and visited a village. Yes, this is a Three Toed Sloth, an orphaned pet.

Machu Picchu may be over hyped, but it lives up to expectations. This gem survived largely because it was unknown to the Spanish Conquistadors.

It’s hard to summarize the Galapagos in a single picture. A Blue Footed Booby will have to make do.

We went to Las Vegas in March to watch the men and women from Colorado State University compete in the Mountain West basketball tournaments. High hopes, high disappointments.

Summer in Fort Collins. Golf, cabin, hiking, family. On our way to Las Cruces to Celebrate Carol Walker’s birthday bash in August, we took a detour through Montrose, Ridgeway, Telluride, and Durango to ride the Silverton train. Clearly, we need to spend more time enjoying what Colorado has to offer.

In September, Darel decided to Pedal the Plains, shown here with two of his taller friends, Jim and Glenn.

And wouldn’t you know it, it’s October and winter is almost here. Time for a week in Breckenridge before too much snow starts to fall.

November takes us to Saint George, Utah, for a week of golf and hiking in the relatively warm sun.

And in December, two weeks in Puerto Vallarta. One of the things we enjoy the most about travel is learning about different cultures and viewpoints. Each afternoon at 5:00 in early December, there is a large procession ending at the church in old town Puerto Vallarta. Participants usually bring a basket of gifts for the poor, which may include anything from food to toilet paper.

We took a water taxi to Yelapa, where we hiked to a waterfall and Darel had to try the inviting pool below the waterfall. The water was cold, but a shot of tequila quickly warmed him up.

We like to explore, and on this trip we traveled, mostly local bus, to Bucerias, Sayulita, and San Sebastian, a colonial village in the mountain east of Puerto Vallarta.

The year 2015 has been good to us and we hope you too have good memories. Best wishes to you for a happy and exciting 2016.
