Here is a really simple example of an animation using Scientific Notebook.
Type xyt and choose Compute > Plot 3D Animated > Rectangular. You can change the animation interval to -1 < t < 1 to watch a hyperbolic paraboloid turn itself upside down.
Although this is a curved surface, all of the grid lines are indeed straight lines.
