Blaine Zulkoski travels all over the United States selling Pacific Log
Homes. The Engleman Spruce logs come from British Columbia, Canada, where
the logs were scribed to fit, assembled, and numbered. The logs were transported to Colorado by truck and reassembled on our lot at Mill Creek. Blaine knows a lot about building log homes and was very useful in helping us customize our plans. He also acted as the general contractor
during the initial stage of construction.
Blaine suggested a walk-out basement. A sturdy foundation is required for the log structure, and a walk-out basement nearly doubles the living space for a modest extra cost. High Plains Foam built the basement walls using insulated concrete forms filled with cement. Linda and Darel attached drywall to the interior. Distinctive Stone attached manufactured stone veneer on the outside.
Blaine also suggested a roof panel system. The panels are four feet wide, a
foot thick, and in our case, 24 feet long. The panels are prefinished on the
inside and ready for steel or asphalt roofing on the outside. We chose
green steel roofing.
Pacific Log Homes generated plans and Crown Jade completed the
engineering. Davide Ferrin did the soil test for a leach field.
Burnham and Sun installed solar and Hersh and Son dug our water
well. Wayne’s Pump Service added the pumps and plumbing for our well system.
Front Range Excavation did our septic system. John Avila completed the
electrical after Linda and Darel cut and drilled holes for the wires. We also
did the drywall and window framing, then hired Redstone Ridge Construction
to do much of the interior work, including the doors, Pine floors,
cabinets, granite countertops, and propane appliances. Advanced Comfort installed a Jotul wood stove.
