It sits on an island in the middle of a river. The artist who did the mural on the outside of the building added a leg to make sure that his work was remembered.
There is a small Jewish population in Bamberg, mostly immigrants from eastern Europe. The entrance to their synagogue is a very plain-looking door accessible from a back alley, all designed to be as invisible as possible.
High above the city is the Benedictine Kloster St Michael, a former mosastery. It now houses a retirement home and a beer museum.
