The original plan was to board the Aria as soon as we got to Vienna. We learned instead that because of the heavy floods on the lower Danube, our ship had been delayed and that we would check into a hotel on Thursday, then board the ship on Sunday. On Friday, we were told that our ship was on the wrong side of a damaged lock on the Danube. We had to decide by Saturday whether to abort our trip and fly home or go by bus to Amsterdam. The bus tour would visit all the same cities on the dates originally scheduled, but we would get an autobahn view instead of a deck view.
We weren’t eager to jump on more planes for the long trip home, so we decided to make the best of it and continue on the bus tour. Or as the saying goes, “Wait not for the storm to pass; learn to dance in the rain.”
Our stay in Vienna started with a city tour.
