Blaine Zulkoski travels all over the United States selling Pacific Log
Homes. The Engleman Spruce logs come from British Columbia, Canada, where
the logs are scribed to fit, then numbered so that they can be reassembled
on site. Blaine knows a lot about building log homes and was very useful in
helping us customize our plans. He also acted as the general constractor
during the initial stage of construction.
One thing that Blaine suggested was to build a walk-out basement. A sturdy
foundation is required for the log structure, and a walk-out basement nearly
doubles the living space for a modest extra cost. We used High Plains Foam
to build the basement walls. They use insulated concrete forms to build the
sturdy and energy-efficient walls. We attached dry wall to the interior and
used Distinctive Stone to create the manufactured stone veneer on the
outside of the basement.
Blaine also suggested a roof panel system. The panels are four feet wide, a
foot thick, and in our case, 24 feet long. The panels are prefinished on the
inside and ready for a steel or asphalt roofing on the outside. We chose
green steel roofing.
Pacific Log Homes generated plans, then we hired Crown Jade to complete the
engineering that is required by the county. Davide Ferrin did the soil test
that is required for a leach field.
We hired Burnham and Sun to do our solar and Hersh and Son to dig our water
well. Wayne’s Pump Service added the pumps and plumbing for our well system.
Front Range Excavation did our septic system. John Avila completed the
electrical after Linda and I cut and drilled holes for the wires. We also
did the dry wall and window framing, then hired Redstone Ridge Construction
to do much of the finish work, including the interior doors, Pine floors,
cabinets, granite countertops, and propane appliances. The Jotul wood stove
was installed by Advanced Comfort.
